Day 6

Was doing well today, then my Hubby brought in pizza, and I was weak. :(

It's ok because I'm human and if I live to see another day, I'll keep on going.

Today the family and I all had green juice most of the day.  The kids actually ate fruit with exception of the pizza for dinner.  I want my kids to eat raw as much as possible on the weekends.  Public schools and daycare menus don't include a lot of live food.  It's more Bacon, sweetened oatmeal, hamburgers, over cooked carrots...etc.  It's a shame that schools aren't mandated to serve organic foods like in the UK.  The government, I believe, is keeping us sick on purpose... But that's another story.

Day 7 is tomorrow and I'm looking forward to more green juice and delicious raw fruits and veggies for my babies.

Day 5 - No more sugar water!!!

Got on the scale this morning and realized that I only lost 2.4 pounds.  This was baffling to me because last time at day 5 I lost 10 pounds.  I couldn't figure it out.

THEN IT HIT ME!

We bought the wrong brand of coconut water and this brand of coconut water is nothing but sugar water.  I couldn't believe it when I looked at the label.  The first brand we bought just had coconut water and pieces of coconut.  Ugh!!!!  I've been drinking sugar every day since I started, LOL.  I'm crazy!

So, no more coconut water, unless it's actually what it says it is, coconut water....not sugar water.

Day 2

Breakfast - 8:00am - 20oz
Everything Juice

Lunch - 3:15pm - 20oz
Cold Buster Juice

So, I'm sitting in the car, and my daughter has a bag of chips.  While driving and talking I realized that I had eaten 3 chips.  What the heck???  Out of habit I started eating.  That is so insane, lol.  Once I realized it, I stop immediately.  I didn't prepare a juice to take to school so I was hungry when she got in the car.   Preparation is soooo important.  I will do better.

Dinner - 6:45pm - 20 oz
Cold Buster Juice

Snack - 8:00pm - 20 oz
Everything Juice

Monday, March 26, 2012

Day 1

Weight: 235.4 pounds (Yikes)

Breakfast - 9:30am - 20 oz
Everything but the kitchen sink - every fruit and vegetable I had.

Feeling pretty good about today.  I had too much to eat over the weekend so I'm quite bloated.

Lunch - 11:45am - 20 oz
Same as breakfast

Snack - 3:45pm - 20 oz

Cold Buster Juice:
2 apples
1 orange
1 lemon
1/2 grapefruit
1/2 inch ginger root
2 carrots
1 slice of pineapple

I made the Cold Buster because hubby came home sick with a cold.  He had this same Cold Buster juice at the juice bar across the street from his job and he said mine was better. :)  I used the same ingredients but I used less ginger root.  It was very delicious.  I think I'm going to have this tomorrow morning, but I'm going to add a little kale to it.

I'm going to start making simpler juices tomorrow with just a few ingredients instead of everything in my fridge.

Dinner:  7:00pm - 20 oz
Same as Lunch

Today was very hard.  I made dinner for my family and it smelled great.  I had to fight it.  I made it through and I'm looking forward to tomorrow!!!

Days 13 & 14 - Temporary stop of fast

Hi Everyone!

It has been a hectic 3 days.  I'll have to stop my fast and restart it back up next week Monday.  Had some personal things come up that prevented me from juicing and blogging.  But I'll be back.

For the first day I did eat raw fruits and veggies to ease myself off the fast but the second day, I ate "regular" food and boy did I pay for it.  Ever since I've been sluggish, tired and fatigued.  My body hates gross food.  So I'm going to stay on fruits and veggies with the occassional fish until next Wednesday.  I don't want to gain my weight back.

I look forward to talking to you Wednesday with a video and a pic of the scale.

Juice on!

Raw Food Rocks!

Day 12

Day 12

No Breakfast - was running late for church.

Lunch and Dinner - mixed fruits and veggies.

Nothing spectacular happened today.  I didn't exercise nor did I drink as much juice as I should've.  Tomorrow I'm going to go running with my local "Black Girls Run" chapter.  I'm so looking forward to that!

Tomorrow I'm going to try to make homemade "V8".  I want to start using more veggies and less fruits.

Day 11 Tired & Bloated

Day 11
Why am I tired and bloated today? Because yesterday I cheated.  It was such a great day out yesterday, so my Hubby and I went out with the kids.  We went to the park and had a great time.  My husband said, let's go out and just have one meal.  I was starving so I gave in.  Bad Idea!!!  I was light headed and sick to my stomach.  I woke up this morning bloated and dragging with no energy at all.  Ugh!   Back to juicing.  I won't cheat again! LOL

Breakfast 9:30 32 oz
Mixed fruits and veggies.  Added kiwi for the first time.  I did have a medium OAS reaction.  My lips are itchy and I'm coughing more than usual.

Super hungry today.  Probably because my body is craving that crap I ate last night.  Well, it can forget it!  I hated the way I felt afterward.

Lunch 1:30  32 ozSame as breakfast.  Made enough juice for the day.

Friday, March 16, 2012

Day 10 - Full of energy!

Day 10
(Weigh in on day 14)

Breakfast: 10:15am
Lemon Ginger Blast w/Green Juice
Small OAS reaction - a little coughing and itchy eyes

I am so full of energy today.  I'm going to clean my house from top to bottom and then maybe go outside for a walk.  I'm even typing faster, lol.  I love this feeling!  I'm sleeping great and the cravings have decreased.

Lunch 12:45pm (20oz)
Mixed fruits and veggies, including beets. No OAS reaction. :)

more to come...

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Day 9

Day 9

I have to get my water in and exercising today.  So I'm going to drink 2 liters of water today and go for a walk after I pick up the kids.  I know this is essential for weigh loss and cleaning.

Breakfast: 7:30am

Lemon Ginger Blast Green Juice

The habanero is a powerful pepper.  Just little is enough.

No Lunch (bad bad bad)

Dinner:  8:05pm

A mixture of juices

Didn't plan well.  I left the house and didn't pack or plan well.  I came home very weak, very agitated, and very sleepy.  I have to do better with this.  4-5 juices, water and exercise is what I need!

Day 8 - 13.2 pounds in a week!!!

Day 8
Weight: 222.0 - 13.2 pounds in a week

If I was just doing this for weight loss purposes, I'd be wondering what the heck is going on.  Less than a pound in 2 days?  But because I'm going for the over all health benefits, I'm ok with losing 4 oz or whatever the case may be.  I feel great, I'm energized and I'm sleeping great.  I'm also overcoming this OAS, which is really great, since I want to start eating healthy.

I've learned a few things over the past week:
  1. Plan ahead - If I'm going out, I need to make sure I know where the juice bar is close to my destination or carry some fruits and veggies with me to eat.
  2. No more Naked Smoothies - If I go out and I have nothing, I will eat nothing until I get home to make a juice.
  3. Too much ginger with lemon makes my tongue hurt
  4. Fried chicken smells good and tastes good, but juicing makes me feel good.
  5. I need an accountability partner to help me stay focused and on task.
  6. I don't like the taste of a bunch of celery in my juice
  7. Coconut water makes the juice taste so good and refreshing
  8. Drink water - helps curb the cravings when you are well hydrated
  9. I'm stronger than I thought I was
  10. I can do another 7 days
I'm going to stop weighing myself every day and go to once a week.  It will keep me sane, lol.  Weighing yourself everyday is such craziness.  It plays so many tricks with your mind.  Plus I don't want to focus on the pounds, I want to focus more on my body's reaction to eating healthy and putting the extra energy I have to good use.

Breakfast 10:45am

My version of Ginger Lemon Blast:
  • 1 whole lemon
  • 1 piece of ginger
  • 1/3 cucumber
  • 2 apples
  • 4 strawberries
  • 1/2 habanero pepper
  • 1/2 carrot
  • cilantro
  • parsley
  • spinach
IT WAS SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!  It did give me a small OAS reaction, where there is some coughing.  I wonder what that was from?  I think it may have been from the big red grapes I bought.  I normally buy the green.  I'm not sure.  The recipe called 3 habaneros and there was NO way I was doing that.  I just put in a 1/2 and it was enough.  Delish and filling!

Lunch and Dinner - Ginger Lemon Blast

2 things I'm not doing that is important - drinking 2 liters of water and exercising!

Ugh!  This is essential when it comes to cleansing.  I'll be working on this this week.

Day 7 - Back to my regularly scheduled programming

Day 7
Forgot to weigh myself.
This was a super hectic morning which is why I forgot to weigh myself.  It was my first day back from spring break, and my husband got a new job, so I had to do all the driving.  I got up at 3:50am to stream my church's prayer service.  I pressed snooze to go back to sleep my body wasn't having it.  So I just stayed awake, although I didn't get out of the bed.
I begin dropping everyone off at 6:30am, then off to school.  I made a huge juice and drunk half and saved the rest for later while I was in school.
Breakfast: 7:30am and 11:15am - 40oz all together
I drunk a juice before I headed off to school and then I drunk a juice in my second class. By the time I got home around 3:30pm, I was SUPER hungry. All I kept thinking about was that left over fried chicken in the refrigerator. SMH But I drunk my juice and was happy. It'll pay off when I get on the scale and when I finally beat my food addiction demons.
Lunch: 3:45pm - 20oz
No OAS reaction all day - which is awesome!!!  Cravings are still there, which is so weird.  I just don't understand.  Everyone says the first 3 days are the hardest, but not for me.  The first 3 days weren't barely as hard as yesterday and today.

Dinner: 7:30pm - Naked Smoothie...bad idea

I was out and about all night last night and ended up drinking one of those Naked smoothies.  BAD IDEA!!!  First of all, I didn't realize it had bananas in it, and secondly, I haven't had milk in months.  I had stomach cramps and light headedness all night.

NOTE TO SELF:  When you know you're going out, pack some fruit and veggies or make sure there is a real juice bar on your route.

Can't wait to get to get on the scale to see how much I've lost.

Day 6 - great morning, craving in the evening

Day 6
Weight - 222.8 lbs (1.6 pounds down/12.4 total)

Hubby woke me up early when he got ready for work and I couldn't fall back to sleep because I was full of energy, lol. I can't believe it's 6 days without food, and I don't feel deprived. That is so cool!

STINK ALERT! I noticed last night when I was laying down that I had a weird smell coming from skin. One of the stages of the juice fast is having a weird body order as the toxins are releasing from your body. I told my husband that it smelled like his socks after he's been wearing them all day. I was too sleepy to get up and take a shower, so I bathed this morning and washed the sheets. The sheets were pretty smelly.

Another thing I noticed was my mouth felt uncomfortable. I brush my teeth 3 times a day because my tongue has this white coating on it from the toxins being released. I also am concerned about bad breath. Plus the acid in the fruits and veggies may damage my teeth...at least I think so, so I'm just protecting them. I don't have many teeth so I wanna keep the ones I have. :)

I haven't had a bowel movement in 2 days. I think I'm going to do a salt water flush if I don't have one by Wednesday. They say you can go days without a movement. I just want to make sure I'm cleaned out.

Breakfast: 10:45am - 40 oz juice this time.
Very small OAS reaction, just a few coughs. I can tell it's getting better. Very happy about that!

Lunch 3:20pm - 20 oz

I wasn't hungry for most of the day. I had to remember to eat. THAT IS SO CRAZY! I made a really green juice this time. It was ok. No OAS reaction.

I am struggling this evening with food. I want to eat so bad. Having a hard day today.
Dinner 7:30pm - 20oz
I made fried chicken for my family today, which is my favorite. I am really struggling because of the smell and the sight up the crispy oven fried chicken (yummy). I kept going and fought with myself until I went to bed.

Protein & Juice Fasting

I got asked about protein today. Surprisingly enough, I get about 40g of protein with all the kale, broccoli and other fruits and veggies I put in my juice. Some say it's not enough, but I think for 60 days it should be fine. When you have weight loss surgery, your surgeon wants you to get at least 70 g of protein a day. Some think just eating fruits and veggies is unhealthy because of the protein. Consider this. A moose is a very muscular animal, and the moose ONLY eats grass. Isn't that amazing? An animal with such muscular strength and tone only eats plants. So why doesn't he eat protein? Hmm....

Protein does help curb appetite and fill full, and I would REALLY love some fried chicken right about now, lol. But during this fast experiment/journey, plants are going to give me my protein.  Once I'm done with the fast, I'll start adding more protein to my diet, mostly from fish, beans and nuts.

Day 5 - down 1 pound

Day 5
weight: 224.4 (down 1.0, 10.8 pounds total)

I was surprised that I only lost 1 pound, but I'm glad I did lose. I need to start walking. I probably also need to start drinking more juice. I only drink about 60-70 oz a day, and I'm sure I should be drinking at least 80oz. I'm going to boost my juice today to 4-5 glasses per day instead of the 3.
Slept great another night. I woke up early but I didn't want to get up and it took a lot for me to fall back asleep because I had so much energy. I plan on using more green in my juice today and less fruit.

Breakfast (1:45pm)

32 oz of juice this time. Small OAS reaction, but more coughing then usual. I think it was because I added more celery and more clementines this time.

Lunch (4:15pm)

Made a fruitier juice this afternoon, with more strawberries and raspberries. I always included kale regardless of what kind of juice I make. Not because I like the taste, but because green veggies have a lot of beneficial nutrients. My biology professor use to say eating green veggies is "eating the sun".

Made Eggplant Parmesan for dinner. It smells so good. It's one of my favorite meals. Looking forward to having it when the fast is over.
Dinner (8:30pm)

Nothing fancy, same ole juice.  No OAS reaction at all.  The time change last night had me all mixed up today, lol.  I did everything later than normal, lol.  My grandson is here.  He's 3 months younger than my youngest daughter, who is almost 21 months.  I want to go to bed in 30 minutes, but I don't know if they will let me, lol.  I'm very sleepy.  Since I started the fast, my body lets me know when it's ready to sleep and it wants to sleep immediately, lol.  I mean, there is no "I'm getting sleepy."  It's just, "OMG, I'm so sleepy."  LOL  I actually like that because I've had some trouble falling asleep in the past.
I wanted to try to drink 5 juices, but I really wasn't hungry for more than the 3 I had today.  But I did manage to have 76 oz of juice today.  I've also been trying to get my water in.  I'll do better with the water tomorrow.

Day 4 - 2.2 more pounds gone

Weight: 225.4 pounds - down 2.2 pounds, 9.8 pounds all together

Wow almost 10 pounds in 3 days! That's crazy!!! Very excited and motivated to keep going. Slept great.

Breakfast - 11:30am (late, it's Saturday)
I won't give you the boring details of my juice but I did add a plum and a stalk of celery. Raw plums and celery always gave me trouble. Well, I didn't get the itchy throat or anything, but I did cough a little. Nothing too major. I bet my OAS is gone by the end of the 60 days. My body loves fruits and veggies!
I have cooked dinner every night on this fast and this morning I cooked breakfast; pancakes and bacon.  It smelled delicious, but I didn't have a bite.  I've stuck to the fast....except once.  I cut up a corn dog for my daughter and before I knew it I had a piece in my mouth.  It was out of habit that I nibbled it.  I spit it out, though, I refused to swallow it.  So for going on 4 days, I've been strictly juicin'...and I love it!
Lunch - 4pm

I ate lunch late but I was pretty hungry today, just have been super busy. Went to the store to get more apples, cucumber carrots and kale. I'm disappointed that my husband has been eating now and then while supposedly on a "fast". Doesn't matter, I'm going going to keep going and I'm going to lose 60 pounds...or more!

Dinner: 7:55pm

Was really hungry tonight. I am craving fried chicken and bread. This is the first night were my cravings are over powering. I guess because I'm watching more tv than usual. It's the weekend and weekends were the hardest for me when I was dieting. But I made it. Nothing but juice!

My Juicer - for now

I bought this juicer for only $30 on Amazon.   Click here to see it

Black & Decker JE2200B 400-Watt Fruit and Vegetable Juice Extractor with Custom Juice Cup

It works pretty good, but you get what you pay for.  In other words, you have to cut up all of your fruits and veggies, take the peels off of your fruits and no stems on your veggies.  It's time consuming.  However, it does the job.  I really like it.  My goal is to buy a Breville Juicer so that I can juice faster and in bigger quantities so that I can share with my family.

Click here to see the juicer I can't wait to get!

Happy Juicing!

Day 3 - 3.2 more pounds gone!

Day 3
Weight: 227.6 (-3.2 pounds from yesterday, -7.6 pounds in 2 days)

Wow! 3.2 more pounds! How exciting! I'm feeling so motivated to keep going. I woke up this morning very weak and shaky, but not hungry. But I knew that was my body's way of saying "feed me." I made a simplier juice today for breakfast.

Breakfast:
  • 3 apples
  • 1 clementine
  • 1 lemon
  • a bunch of kale
  • a few left over broccoli (waste - it doesn't juice well)
  • 1 carrot
  • 1/2 a cucumber
  • coconut water
My mouth really feels dry and my tongue feels thick. I do have that white coating. I'm going to do a sea salt rinse again today.
Last night was another great night of sleep. I didn't go to bed until 11:45pm, and I woke up at 7am. I was kinda groggy but once I had my juice I felt much better.

So I got a little hungry around 12:30 so I had lunch. Here's what I had:

Lunch:
  • apple, cucumber, spinach, lemon, clementine, sweet potatoe, coconut juice, grapes, lettuce, purple cabbage and, yes, a plum.
I added the plum to see if I could tolerate it. So far, so good. I have a small OAS reaction, like the urge to cough, but it's not bad.

I decided not to go into detail about my juices anymore. Seems like it's too much usless information. There are a lot of receipe's on the internet. I just like to add a bunch of stuff together, making sure there is something green in there.

I'm hoping to start exercising this weekend (today is Friday).

I was a little hungry around 3:30 so I made another juice. This had WAY too much lemon and ginger. Its spicy and sour. Oh well. I did put some cucumber, spinach, an apple, strawberries and a clementine in it too. Yuck. I will finish it but I will never use a whole lemon if I'm not using a lot greens. Also, lemon and ginger do not go well together, lol. I love experimenting. Lesson learned. :)

Wasn't hungry enough to make another juice drink. So I made some tea. My tongue felt thick, dry and coated all night and it irritated me. I look forward to making it to day 4.

Day 2 - 4.4 pound loss

Day 2

Weight: 230.8 (4.4 pound loss)

That's amazing that I lost 4.4 pounds already. Pretty neat. I sleep really good last night, I was knocked out like I took a sleeping pill, lol. My goal today is to drink more water, I barely had 16 oz yesterday.

Yesterday was rough in the afternoon/evening because I am an emotional eater and I was dealing with my sister being in the hospital and also some personal issues and all I wanted to do was eat everything in the house, but I didn't. And I'm glad I didn't. I'm glad I over came those emotions and it gave me great results on the scale!

Breakfast:
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 red apple
  • cup of grapes
  • 2 strawberries
  • 2 blackberries
  • 1/2 lemon
  • a bunch of kale
  • 1/3 cucumber
  • 1 clementine
  • a couple of small pieces of ginger
  • carrot
  • 1 cup of coconut water
  • slice of pineapple
9:27am - I have mild stomach cramps and runny bowels and my pee is bright yellow. Thank God I have no OAS symptoms.

Lunch: (12:40pm)
  • 2 red apples
  • cup of grapes
  • 5 strawberries
  • 3 blackberries
  • 1/2 lemon
  • kale
  • 1/3 cucumber
  • 1 clementine
  • a couple pieces of parsley
  • few flowers of broccoli (waste these don't juice)
  • a couple of small pieces of ginger
  • 1/2 sweet potato
  • 1 cup coconut water

Most recipes for juicing are not as elaborate as mine. Most have only 3 - 5 items. I like a bunch of stuff all in one, so I put a little of everything in mine, and I love it that way. No OAS symptoms for lunch! Yay!

Normally, raw apples, strawberries, cucumber and sweet potato make me itch. I normally have to nuke them in the microwave for 2 minutes before I can eat them. But in juices they seem to have little affect. Celery, surprisingly, seems to give me a reaction. My first juice before juice fasting had 5 stalks of celery. I think for dinner I'm going to try to add just one. I tried beets too, and beets are just off putting! Yuck.

Dinner:
  • same as lunch
My mouth is dry and my tongue feels funny. I've been gargling with sea salt water so that I won't get a canker sore in my mouth. From my understand, some people on various fasts may have this as a side effect. I hate those things!! I'm hoping the salt water rinse prevents them

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

Day 1

Day 1:
Breakfast
  • 1 green apple
  • 1 red apple
  • cup of grapes
  • 2 strawberries
  • 2 blackberries
  • 1 lemon
  • a bunch of kale
  • 1/3 cucumber
  • 1 clementine
  • a couple of small pieces of ginger
  • carrot
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut water
  • slice of pineapple
The juice was pretty good. Best of all NO ORAL ALLERGY SYNDROME (OAS) reaction. I was surprised. I will be having this for breakfast more often. Felt very weak and needed to eat about 5 hours later. The juice is surprisingly filling.

Lunch:
  • 2 red apples
  • cup of grapes
  • 1 plum
  • 1/2 small sweet potato
  • carrot
  • 3 broccoli flowers
  • handful of spinach
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1/3 cucumber
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • pieces of ginger
Small OAS reaction.. throat feels a little swollen. When I take deep breaths I cough. I wonder if its the plum. I'm going to do without the plum for dinner and add celery. I thought it was the celery that was giving me a reaction when I did sample juicing before and it was probably the plum. I have some beets and I juiced them before and I didn't like the juice. I'm going to try them again for dinner.

Dinner:
  • same as lunch instead of no plum and added 3 strawberries and kale
No OAS reaction, which is awesome!

Was feeling very tired early in the day, like around 8pm. At 10 I could barely keep my eyes opened.

juice fast, juice feast, fasting, feasting, weight loss

Pre-Fast - The whys....

December 2010 - 266 pounds
Wow, Christmas 2010 I weighed 266 pounds.  I had lapband surgery January 2011 and by October 2011, I was 208 pounds.

Feb 2011 - 230 pounds
October 2011 - 208 pounds

The Lapband changed my life and it is a great tool.  A lot of my friends that have had Lapband surgery are close or at their goal weight.  Me?  Far from it.  In fact I stopped going to the doctor, stopped exercising and started eating like I use to.  I gained a lot of my weight back.  I am now back to 235 pounds.  Not happy about that at all!!!

My problem?  FOOD ADDICTION.  Before I had the surgery, I really should've been treated for my food addiction.  I didn't realize I had an addiction until I got my Lapband.  Some people say weight loss surgery is the easy way out.  UH UH, NOW WAY, HECK NAW!!!  It is soooo hard, harder than a diet because not only do you have to deal with diet and exercise, your mind really gets to you.  You have to overcome yourself and your mind in order to be successful.

Then one day I saw this movie and it changed my whole way of thinking!

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead is a documentary about Joe Cross and his journey on a 60 day Juice Fast/Feast.  For 60 days he didn't eat anything, he just drank fruit and vegetable juice that he made himself.  There are so many macro nutrients that you get from juicing yourself that you don't get in the bottles of juice you get at the store.  Not only did he lose 70 pounds in 60 days, he also was cured of his debilitating autoimmune disease.  I was all in!!

BUT WAIT!!!

I have Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS).  OAS is when you are allergic to some RAW fruits and veggies.  Cooked or processed, the fruits and veggies are not a problem.  Its when the are raw.  There is an enzyme or protein that certain foods have that are destroyed when they are cooked.  In my case it is not life threatening.  I just get an itchy mouth, throat and ear, my eyes water and I have a cough.  It's more annoying than anything.  Bananas and certain melons make me vomit so I stay clear of those.  I believe this juice fast will get rid of my OAS.  We'll see. :)

So my goal is to do a 60 day fast, but I'm taking it only 10 days at a time.  If I get to 10 days and stop, it will still be a victory.  But I want to last the whole 60 days. I want to lose 60 pounds and get cured of the OAS and food addiction.  I know it won't be easy, but it will be worth it!!!
